When I was very young one of my teachers told me always to keep a list of every book I ever read.  I wish I’d followed his advice, as it would be really interesting to look back on the list now.  Anyway, I finally decided to start when I went on holiday in the summer of 2006, and to put them all on the web site so you can see.  Here goes:

“The Old Curiosity Shop” - Charles Dickens (July/August 2006)

“Are we alone?” – transcripts of interviews with various scientists back in the 1960’s which were part of the preparation for the film ‘2001: A Space Odyssey' (August 2006)

“Madcap” – Tim Willis (August 2006) (a biography of Syd Barrett the founder of Pink Floyd, who died in 2006.  Not just because of the impact Pink Floyd have had on my life, but Syd meant an awful lot to me, and I was more upset than I thought I was by his death)

“Pride and Prejudice" – Jane Austin (August 2006)

“The strange death of Tory England” – Geoffrey Wheatcroft (August 2006)

“Uncle Petros and Goldblach’s conjecture” – Apostolos Doxiadis (August 2006)

Since then I’ve been catching up on my ‘Pro Cycling’ and ‘Private Eye’ backlog, and have been very busy indeed at work, so haven't read as much as I'd like to.

“The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” - Mark Twain (September 2006)

"Dune" - Frank Herbert (November 2006)

"Inferno" (from the Divine Comedy) - Dante (January 2007)

All of CS Lewis's Narnia books (February, March 2007)

"The Glittering Prizes" - Frederic Raphael (April 2007)

"The Invention of Hugo Cabret" - Brian Selznick (June 2007)

"The Code Book" - Simon Singh (July 2007)

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" (July 2007)

"Blink - the Power of Thinking with Thinking" - Malcom Gladwell (August 2007)

Next on the list:

Some poems by Keats and Yevtushenko, followed by

“Mere Anarchy” - Woody Allen

"King Lear"

"Bleak House" - Charles Dickens

I’ll keep you posted …
