I’ve done so many things since I last saw you it’s hard to know where to begin! Here are just some of the highlights:

I ran the London Marathon in 2004 (the photo above is just after I finished) and also in 2005. It is a fantastic experience, and crossing the finishing line is a memory that will last forever. Combining both runs I raised over £3,000 for the National Blind Children’s Society. Their web site is:

In July 2005 I cycled from London to Paris with some friends for another charity – Action Medical Research. I raised over £1,800. Their web site is:

Ocacsionally I've done some voluntary work at Keats House in Hampstead. Since I was at Sixth Form College Keats has been my favourite poet – and it’s lovely to work there occasionally, reflect on the time he spent there (where he wrote ‘Ode to a Nightingale’ amongst others), and share my enthusiasm for his life and work with others. The web site is:
I've also visited the house where he died, and the Protestant Cemetary where he is buried, in Rome.

The Planetary Society is also fascinating, and they have a great web site: It was very interesting to learn not so long ago that one of the planets lost a moon!

I’m a member of Leicester Tigers – and go and see them as often as I can home and away. I saw them win the European Cup in Paris in 2001 - one of the greatest games I've ever seen - and another highlight was seeing them beat Leinster (Brian O’Driscoll and all!) in Dublin. In January this year I went to Limerick to see the Tigers make history by being the first team ever to beat Munster at Thomond Park in the Heineken Cup. This could be our year again! The Calcutta Cup game on 3 February was a great comeback, and apart from Jonny (obviously) I thought that Harry Ellis had a superb game. Bring on the World Cup in France later this year ...

The Ashes series of 2005. Wow! Brings back distant memories of Ian Botham performing miracles in 1981 …. Sean I know you like cricket. I hope you watched it! As to the Ashes series just finished, the less said the better I guess ...

I've really got into cycling (road, not off road - haven't tried that yet!) and have two Trek bikes, one a hybrid and one a specialist racing bike. They are both called 'Lance'. I don’t know if you know the story of Lance Armstrong? You should read his book “It’s Not About the Bike”. There’s a passage in it that always makes me think of you! In 2004 I did the famous London to Brighton bike ride – the hill near the end is extremely serious! There's a hill near where I live, close to Whipsnade Zoo, that we call the "Hill of Pain". This year the Tour de France starts in London, and I'll watch the start - and then be there at the finish having cycled to Paris again!

I’ve written two novels now, and a book of poems, and am thinking about starting my third novel.

In 2005 I won the National Sales Awards, which was one of my proudest work moments. Here’s a picture of me on stage being presented with the award. This year my team are finalists again in a team category - we find out on 15 February ...

My favourite band is still Pink Floyd, of course.

My favourite TV programme is still ‘Twin Peaks’. I wonder if you remember what we used to say about the owls? Recently I’ve got into ‘24’ in a very big way. | |

I have three tiny fish all called Nemo.

I’ve planted a tree in the front garden for you. It blossoms every spring and autumn. It’s beautiful.

I cycled to Paris again last year for Action Medical Research, and raised almost £3,000 - here's a photo of me at the finish, near the Eiffel Tower, holding up my bike.
We have our own web site: |
